9/18/16    CIVILISATION

Donna Fornier, Viola da gamba / Tracy Richardson, harpsichord

On Sunday, Sept. 18, at 2:00, Mélomanie presents “Up Close & Personal: The Viola da Gamba” with gambist Donna Fornier and harpsichordist Tracy Richardson. The program includes highly expressive baroque works, challenging new music by Mark Rimple, and my 3-movement Civilisation. The concert will be in the Wilmington Friends School Theater, an elegant modern space with perfect acoustics.

On Saturday, Sept. 24, 7:30 PM, Mélomanie and guest artist, Icelandic violinist Eva Ingolf, perform at the Smyrna Opera House, Smyrna, DE. The program includes baroque classics, Angico by Brazilian composer Sergio Roberto de Oliveira, and my Raven Thoughts for solo violin and Icelandic Songs, Sacred and Secular for Eva and the ensemble.

10/25/16     Companion Piece II - Rio de janeiro

Geisa Felipe & Erick Soares, Flutes

On Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 3:00 PM, flutists Geisa Felipe and Erick Soares will perform Companion Piece II at the Instituto Villa-Lobos - UNIRIO, the State University of Rio de Janeiro. Companion Piece II, a  duo originally premiered in Rio by Laura Ronai and Tom Moore, uses the space in the hall to investigate the sonic possibilities of playing at maximum distance, medium distance, and close together. Music of Sergio Roberto de Oliveira and other Brazilian composers will also be on the program.

Acclaimed British pianist Martin Jones’ recital features two pieces from my Clavier Book 2. The program includes works of Mendelssohn, Debussy, and Rachmaninov, as well as new works from Byron Petty, Jennifer Margaret Barker, Kent Holliday, Christopher Cook, and Bruce Mahin. These concerts are part of a MahinMedia project in which Mr. Jones performs music of selected American composers by region (in this case, the Mid Atlantic) and records them on the PnOVA label. Quintsylvania Winds

PLEASE NOTE! The concert will not include Wind Tunnels, which has been postponed to a later concert, probably this spring. The rest of this fine concert will proceed as planned.

Monday, Nov. 21, at 7:30 PM in the Philips Autograph Library of West Chester University, West Chester PA, the faculty woodwind quintet, Quintsylvania Winds, will include Wind Tunnels on their program. The performance will feature a new final movement.
